Well I don't really know what the average is for females to be honest. I guess I am comparing to boys actually. Jasper got down to 17.4 with all the stress of 2 surgeries back to back and his little butt was bony. He's put on a little now but I will monitor his weight gain as I like them leaner rather than fatter. Bronwen looks great.

45lbs or 20.5kg is supposed to be "average" for males, with females being slightly less. That being said, I wonder how many of those "average BCs are a bit over weight, since the "average" dog is. And don't forget to take into consideration the vastly different sizes that BCs come in.
Gotta love 'em.

Thanks GM, as I say its not something I'm precious about but a few people have said she's small but I don't think she is - from what I've read she's the top end of the scale for Female BCs in the UK and she's not carrying any excess. But I'm also aware that she's a muscle bullet LOL so that may be confuses things. I guess she now looks bigger compared to pup but looks small compared to the male BCs she's friends with.

Anyway, her and pup are hating each other Wink

Training could be going better though LOL

Thanks GM. This tells me that structurally my boys are on the more petite side of the size variation. 20.5kg would in my opinion put both my boys into the overweight category.
Max turned 2 years old recently which I am thinking is reaching maturity. With no change to his diet he suddenly seemed to gain weight and this coincided with Jaspers recent weight loss so it made the gain even more obvious. I think this is perhaps where many owners inadvertently allow their dogs to become overweight by not really keeping an eye on the different dietary needs of different stages. We adjusted Max's intake approx 2 weeks ago and just yesterday we discussed that we think he has trimmed off just a little.

Lol Bronwen! That last pic is awesome! Nothing like a pup using a brain game book as a brain game. Tongue

Bronwen looks a little overwhelmed like she is wondering if it is time for the baby to take a nap!

Tasha weighs around 32lbs/14.5kg and Mattie is slightly bigger 34lbs/15.4kg. I think Gideon's mom is correct in that so many people have overweight dogs that when they see a healthy, athletic dog it looks small to them.

Both of my boys are medium height, about 21.5 inches and both weight 42-43 lbs. If they get up to 45 lbs., they are slightly overweight, but not enough that my vet would ever take notice of it, and most people I know would still think they were thin. YUCK! They like their pudgy puppies.
Gotta love 'em.

/derail, apologies:

I am so confused by this weight and height thing now. I measured Ember standing with a measuring tape from floor to withers and she is exactly 20 inches. She is also right at 40 lbs, can get down to 37 easily. So why in the world does she look so "short" and "broad" in comparison to literally every BC we've come across since I've had her (I've seen many)?

Vet says she's a perfect weight, so the broadness is skeletal maybe? (it definitely ain't muscle though I vow to work on that)

Or is it just me? Does Ember look short/stubby from the videos or here? (I love this face, she has no clue why I want her to stand LOL!)

I love the picture of Bron and Mabli! Bron looks so intense! I love how they are getting along. And yes, when they get a hold of the training book, you might be doing something wrong Wink

There are different BC body types. Gideon is one of the long lean narrow ones, so is Lily, but Micah is one of the shorter barrel chested ones. He isn't really shorter at all, but I agree the barrel chest makes him look shorter.
Gotta love 'em.

Mattie and Tasha have very different body types. Tasha is very lean and petite and Mattie has a bigger build. We call Mattie 'cross-fit pup' because she has the bulkier muscles. Mattie's paws are quite a bit larger than Tasha's. My daughter says Tasha has Cinderella feet and Mattie has puppy paws.
