Wildlife
Mine is a man made 1/4 acre(about 1 million gallons) in the ground pond. I used to have beautiful Japanese koi, but a blue heron emptied me out.
Gotta love 'em.

Only-borders, great story, I laughed so hard I was crying!  I can imagine myself doing the same along with a constant conversation with the wayward frogs.

I'm feeling a bit sheltered right now.  Aggressive turtles, venomous snakes, and water bugs that try to eat you??!!  (To be fair we have venomous snakes but I don't think they like the water.)  I'm thinking I grew up very sheltered in Oregon.  I remember days spent at the river or playing in the ponds and nothing ever tried to harm me!

As of this morning I found out we have had 4 sightings of cougars in our area. It seems our house is in the middle of the activity. Closest being 2 miles away and the farthest is about 10 mile.
That doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling about going into our fields or woods any time soon. Heck I don't even want to go for a walk on the road.

To think I have been worried about the wolves, coyotes and bears. Now it's cougars too. Geesh.  Undecided

Wow OB, that is some pretty scary wildlife you have there, particularly if they have established a territory that includes your property. Take care !

A few years ago there was an incident with a mountain lion.  Three teenage boys were out camping in the desert and their truck broke down.  In the middle of the day they were wandering about trying to get cell service.  Two boys together and one on his own.  The boys were separated by some distance but could see each other and the two saw the one being stalked by a mountain lion.  The two began screaming and jumping up and down in an attempt to warn their friend and the friend turned just in time to see what was happening.  Thankfully, he had a gun in his backpack (the boys had been target shooting) and killed the lion before it had a chance to attack him.  I have to admit I was really cautious after that when going out at night.

By the way, cougar and mountain lion are the same thing just different names depending on where you are in the USA.

The farmer who leases our land is going to check things out for us. That of course doesn't mean just because the cat/cats aren't around when he looks that they won't be back. He is going to look for scat and prints mostly.

We have a Halloween walk through the woods and it's time to start setting it up. We'll wait and see what farmer Dave has to say before we decide to go forward or not.

My husband was out splitting and stacking wood last night and I sat on a wood pile with my head on a swivel. I was his protection.  Dodgy   It's a very uneasy feeling being away from the house.

There is a lot of livestock out in the fields these days for easy picking. It does sound like many of the farmers will be keeping an eye out and keeping everyone posted if they see anything.

That guy was lucky to have his gun.

We have our version of cougars too, Florida Panthers. We're not in their normal range, but we are in an area that the young adults pass through when they are looking for new territory. We had a good scare one day when we were out riding our horses. Fortunately, they have a smell that say "CARNIVORE!!!!" to horses, so we suddenly found ourselves facing the other direction and heading quickly down the trail. I had seen the prints a while before, but the horses were calm so we kept going, but when we got to an area where the trail narrowed and there was good cover right up to the side of the trail, the horses had suddenly had enough. We have plenty of small game down her and panthers aren't know for going after horses or people, so silly me, I wasn't worried... until the horses decided differently.
Gotta love 'em.
