What breed of dog would you love to own? I would have to say a Vizsla or possibly a German Shorthair would be cool.

  Pack Dynamics

I find this subject pretty interesting. My dog, Lance, seems to be pretty laid back around other dogs and isn't confrontational at all, but other dogs who are more aggressive or are high up in their own "pack" will have a go at him anyways. Of course I avoid these aggressive dogs as much as possible. I know Lance is an Alpha type dog. He isn't at all submissive. But how does another Alpha type dog know this and feel that they need to battle for top dog?

How does your dog fit into your pack's dynamics (if you have more than one dog). And how does it act around other people's dogs?

ETA: BTW, I thought about this today because when I was at work Lance got into a fight. We were down at the hay barn when a guy who shares the barn with my boss drove up with his two Brittany Spaniels. They jumped out of the back of his truck and immediately one of them went for Lance. This is the 3rd time that Lance has had trouble with those two. The first time it was the one that submits to the other, and now is submissive towards Lance. And the other two fights its been the "leader" of the two of them. The guy who owns the Brittanys tried to stop the fight by kicking his dog (not just mean but a bad idea). His dog ended up on his back and Lance was on top. It did give me an opening to grab Lance by the waist and pull him off though. Lance had blood on the white fur around his neck but after examining the two of them we found out the blood was from the Brittany. He got a cut in his mouth during the fight. I had previously told the man that when he comes by if he sees Lance not to let his dogs out. But he said he didn't know Lance was there with me. Lance is ALWAYS there with me. Plus a black and white dog sitting on a hay bail isn't too hard to spot. Oh well.
