  Indie update & New Pics
Posted by: BCMixs - 02-28-2008, 10:58 PM - Forum: Photo & Video Gallery - No Replies

Indie had his re-evaluation with his physical therapist and vet this week. After 6 hydrotherapy sessions, he's regained a good amount of solid muscle throughout his body but especially his back end and shoulders. He's at 57 1/2 lbs and we're still shooting for about 65 lbs when it's all said and done. Still no running or vigorous dog park activities (boo hoo!) but he will be doing 6 more sessions over 6 weeks with hill walking and resistance band walking (don't ask it looks ridiculous!) to build up his quads which are the only group lagging a little. We'll be doing Rimadyl as needed when it gets really cold and he's stiff. We have our special diet from VA Tech that we're switching over to slowly. We might need to intermix the salmon and the chicken because he seems to have a magic protein level at which he switches over to diarrhea. So, we're taking it slow and he's doing really nicely. As my schedule allows I want to get him started in Canine Good Citizen classes, but between all the other stuff, that might wait until late spring/early summer.

Here's some pics of him with his "person" doing what he does best..... comfort and schmooze.

Enjoy!

Hey there Miss Mady, how are you today???? (The typical schmooze starter!)

Oh I just love you so much Miss Mady, how's about a little kissie poo? (Step Two of his nefarious plot!)

No really, I'm little!! I'm itty bitty, really, seeee??? I'm tiny, I can fit in your lap, really... just watch.....

And here he is, just doing what Indie was born to do. Listening, cuddling, and comforting.

Oh Miss Mady, you look sad, tell Mr. Indie all about it while I warm your tootsies...

Do you feel better now that you got that off your chest?

Oh, there's more? Ok dear, I'll stay here listening as long as you need me to. I'm here for you.

And yes, those ARE bedsheets on the furniture. I discovered a set of discounted king sheets make perfect slipcovers and once a week (or more, when paws are muddy or company shows up) I can yank them off and plunk them in the washer and I don't have to spend an hour vacuuming the furniture! Joy!

Only our 2nd class and Woobie gets sent home with a jump! Guess all our silly "Flyball in a hallway" practice did some good after all! He's catching on super quick.

It's been a year of socialization, counter-conditioning and training, constantly exposing him to new environments and challenging situations. Now he adjusted to the venue after one class, wags his tail at the other people there and even took a treat from one!!! (He's not food motivated when stressed, so that's huge too!) So, I am a very proud mama today! /cheer /cloud9 /snoopy /dance /clap

LadyD!!! Advice needed! I stink! LOL!

I smell like shelter. Even though everything I had on went right into the washer and I jumped immediately in the shower, it's still all I can smell. I don't know if anyone else can smell it (my DD is gone right now), but I can. Is this like when I started mucking horse stalls in exchange for riding lessons, will I get used to it? It was a rainy, icy, yukky day and everybody was wet and stinky, but I'm afraid when I go to flyball tonight I'll be getting the sideways glances! LOL!

Any tips?

I missed it by ONE day! S_shocked-15 But I think it's fitting that my first day at his shelter was exactly 1 year to the day from when we got him.

Happy Gotcha Day Woobs! We love your scaredy dog, refusin' to walk on a loose leash, selective hearing, ankle nipping, perpetually smiling, dog park lovin', never met a dog you didn't like self!!!!

And thanks for getting Mommy interested in border collies. Even if some of the BC people are kooks!

Is it just me or do these dogs just look like BCs with stumpy legs? Even the black and white faces, etc! I'm watching a show on Animal Planet and all I can think is that it looks like a full size border collie body with stumpy little legs. Like someone took a border collie and bred it with a dachsund!

Did my first day at the shelter today. Just have 2 things to say:

1-Spay or Neuter your pet!!!!

and

2-At the end of their life, do the right thing by them. Don't let them get into a horrible state and then dump them to be euth'd like you're dropping off old shoes at Goodwill.

So here's the lastest adventure in my darling doggie's life. She like to eat/chew everything she can find. A little back story: we got her at 9wks. Ever since we've had her she's been penned while we are at work. She started out in a kennel and then as she got older and better potty trained we upgraded her to the masterbath, then our/her bedroom, then a few weeks ago she was alowed to have the run of the house. She will be one year at the end of the month. Everyday, she gets all of her toys, a big chew bone and one of the ones with flavor in the middle, and a freshly filled kong. She did great in the romm for the get go. And did good in the house until the end of the first week. She ate my shoe. Sad She was punished, & so I put her back in the room for a few days then back out in the house she made it 2 days and then tore throught the house chewing anything she could reach, remotes, glasses (2 pair) kleenex etc. So back in the room she went and she proceeded to tear into the garbage, that was infact up on the counter, and eat the top of the toilet bowl cleaner off. eek! Fortunatly she didn't get sick. So we took one more step back and she went back into the bathroom. Did good the rest of the week, and I let her back into the bedroom yesterday, and she took a tube of triple antibiotic ointment off the bathroom counter and chewed it up! I don't know what to do! It been the same routine ever since we got her! And she has plenty of yummy puppy stuff to chew on so that's not the deal. There is no specific reason for it, some days she destroys stuff some days she doesn't. And the kicker is when I come home if she's chewed something up she races out of the room tail and head down and won't come near me cause she knows she's in big trouble. I'm losing my mind! And she has already cost us close to $800 in the stuff she has chewed up (Eye Glasses, ipod player remote etc.) I really don't want to resort to putting her in her kennel it seems so mean and she hates it. I just don't know how to stop the chewing. She just doesn't seem to get it. Please give me any suggestions you may have!!!! Thanks!

My 16 y.o. daughter recently got her license and a car from her Dad. I hate her driving by herself but you gotta cut the cord, right? Tonight she goes to the school to see a school play. One of her friends calls here hysterical, crying and mumbling so hard I can't make out what she's saying and of course I'm thinking the worst. I finally get her coherent enough to learn she's trying to get ahold of my daughter and she's (the friend) been hit by a car. I get her to tell me where she's at, tell her to hang up and call the police and that I'm on my way. After calling her parents, I discover she was coherent enough to call them first (whew!) and she appears to be okay but just shaken up badly (and wanted her friends -- awwww!). She got T-boned right in front of the school and spun around the road several times before ending up in a ditch. Here's the weird part, the person who hit her was my daughter's stepsister's boyfriend. (See how confabulated relationships get when you get divorced?) That should be awkward for my daughter when parties start suing.....

Of course, now I've got renewed paranoia about my daughter being out there behind the wheel all by herself.... Cry

I'm glad dogs never grow up and take on the real world by themselves!

First, this pup smiles just like Woobie does.
Second, it's a border collie.
Third, it breaks my G.D. heart because it's true!
