Hi everyone,
Quick question. Maggies adult canines are coming in but her baby ones are not falling out. The adult ones are growing in front of her baby ones. I was hoping that the adult teeth would push out the baby teeth but it looks like the gums are growing over them. Should I take her to the vet and have them pulled or do you think that they will fall out.
Thanks Gina

How long have they been like that? Sometimes when baby teeth are retained it can cause problems, may not be a bad idea to call vet and get their opinion.
How old is she?
Has she lost any?
Are they loose at all?

I would give her hard things to chew on etc to help them along, but as LD says - if in doubt always good to get a vets opinion Smile
She is 5 1/2 months and yes alot of her teeth have fallen out. I gave her a soup bone last night and one of the baby teeth is loose, the other one doesn't look so good. The gums look swollen around it so I think that I will take her to the vet today. I tried to wiggle the problem one and it does not budge. So open my wallet and here we go. Thanks for the advise, will let you know how it goes.
Gina
Just to update you all, the baby teeth fell out on there own, YAAAAAAY
Thanks
yay!!
Rather than start a new thread I'm going to pull this one out of the vault! I've got this problem! I've never had this problem! With any dog! All my dogs have always lost puppy teeth as smooth as butter. We chew on bones and ropes and squeakies and all sorts of toys. We only eat hard food and hard treats. I'm glad to hear Gina's dogs baby teeth fell out on their own but has anyone else had this problem??? I've got double fangs top and bottom on both sides!!! He needs a dentist :-(

The area where the two teeth meet looks pretty red. Are the baby teeth loose? I would suggest some raw bones for him to chew.

If they don't come out soon I would suggest a vet visit.
They aren't loose much at all but I do know that adult fang is only about 50% in so I'm hoping it will push it on out. A friend of mine sent me an article on retained milk teeth and some dogs have to have them pulled by the vet and it is common to do this during the spay/neuter surgery. Since he will only be 24 weeks on Wednesday I'm not too too worried about it yet but it's just odd. I've never seen one do that! Kinda wondering if it is a common problem in BC or dogs will longer noses. It's weird to think he has as many teeth as my pit yet his mouth has so much more room to space them out! The bottom ones are the ones that look super funny though because they are side by side instead of just inline like the top ones.
Scamper had this problem... he had to have them all pulled by the vets because he wasn't eating properly and whining all night. Sad He was absolutely fine afterwards though.
Raider doesn't act like he's in pain. He eats chews, treats, and his food like normal. He plays with all of his toys and chews all over the ropes and rubber balls. It just looks really weird! I may pin him down tonight and see if I can wiggle them! Mwahahahaha! I've been watching them real close because I want a baby tooth! I was able to pick one of my pits teeth out of a toy when she was a baby and I kept it. I'd like to do the same with one of Raiders.
Freckles retained a bottom canine, it fell out on its own finally, but not until some damage was done to her big dog tooth Sad
Bailey's teeth did this on the top, they fell out before too long. I would say when his adult canine was about halfway out.
As long as they aren't bothering him I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. Bryn just lost the last of his puppy teeth, including the double canines and he's 6 months old. But his looked much like Raider's, only Bryn's baby teeth were discolored and grey since they were pretty much dead. Didnt' bother him so the vet said to let them be and they would fall out. They did, until then he's just doubly dangerous when gaurding the house from the toy destuffer who shows up unexpectantly.
Well still no change on the teeth today but last night I got him down on the floor and tried to wiggle them. The top right wiggled pretty good but not enough to come out. The bottom right wiggled a little too but then he was on to my game and wanted no part of it. I went back to just loving on him so he wouldn't get nervous about laying on the floor with me and turned him loose. I checked today at lunch and all of them are still there. Didn't risk wiggling them this time. I'll wait a day or two and try again. Don't want to pester him too much. I always praise him for letting me look at them. Surely they will fall out...
