Hi just wondering what everyone's thoughts or advise is on feeding dogs and pups raw meat is. Other people I know have said that feeding raw liver to my four and half month old is fine but not completely sure, personally I hate the stuff but if it's good for her.

Re: what do you think about feeding raw liver etc to puppies
Not sure on this one...none of mine will touch the stuff however
this site says it's OK and this one is a proponent as well this site and this site say it's OK but must be done sparingly Purina says it's bad in large quanitites...but also says that large amounts of raw meat is bad for them (THEY'RE DOGS!!?!?!) so pick and choose your sources The general consensus is that uncooked liver is fine in moderation however from my research there isn't a lot of data on amount and frequency ("a small amount" given "a couple/several/few times a week") As always, when in doubt....call your vet!

Re: what do you think about feeding raw liver etc to puppies
Thanks for that, I was unsure due to loads of different info, some say it's good others dangerous, I am aware that high amount of vit a is dangerous of dogs. other sites say to freeze it and give it as a training treat
Wonder if anyone out here feeds their dogs/pups liver or something similar. |

I tried with all three. Two wouldn't even pick it up, the third spit it out. (texture thing? who knows) but they LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the Authority liver treats. Go figure?

Re: what do you think about feeding raw liver etc to puppies
I fed raw for a while and although "I" didn't like dealing with the raw meat the dogs loved it. I still feed raw and cooked liver because I get it free.
Feeding raw is more expensive and much more time consuming than feeding kibble. I can't see anything wrong with adding cooked or raw liver 2 to 3 times a week to the kibble. I use 1/3 liver and 2/3 kibble. I also supplement, raw veggies. Until the dogs system is used to the new diet you might have soft stool and gas.

Re: what do you think about feeding raw liver etc to puppies
It's fine in moderation, but it's quite rich so expect some gas and loose stools if it's overfed. In a raw diet it should be about 5-10 percent of the diet, so you can use that as a guideline.

I would not feed it to a young pup - but my older dogs have it about once a month - and love it!
