jog joring journal
I'm going to jot down our jogging dailies, because I just can't contain that kind of excitement. Also you guys can join me in outlining whatever activity you're participating in with the dog(s)...
Day I jogs: Me dogs: Lilly, Pacey weather: warm, humid, sunny music: baroque opera, choral, sacred fuel: vegetarian course: rolling hills 6.8mi notes: Before the run I clipped a bunch of blackberry vines growing over the sidewalk. It kind of wore me out (as lame as that sounds). I had a windbreaker on in humid weather and sweated myself silly. highlights: The dogs took off at a full sprint from a traffic light 1.5 miles out; that was a rush. We stopped a few times to sniff bushes. I cooperated, taking a breather, laying on the grass at one point. Lilly drank more water than usual at the halfway rest stop (two sips instead of one). I ran out of water 2 miles from home, and regretted that for the whole two miles. I still got scratched by a blackberry vine, up the road a ways... ![]() a u s s i e h o u l a |

RE: jog joring journal
Heh!One thing we taught our dogs was that they're allowed to smell ect on permission..it became a problem when my fiance went full speed with them and then suddenly one would do an emergancy stop for a great smell!!
On skiis that has caused him to fall badly a couple of times... now they "work" and then they get a "free" moment!!

RE: jog joring journal
I can imagine that being important on skis! I usually keep going unless they are squatting (and then we all make a run for it).

Day II
jogs: Me dogs: Lilly, Pacey weather: warm, damp, humid, partly sunny music: baroque opera, choral, sacred fuel: vegetarian course: rolling hills 6.8mi notes: I wasn't necessarily going to run today but my order of tights arrived, so that was a good excuse. highlights: The running tights fit nicely (they make the legs feel so muscular). Most everything else was a repeat of yesterday. The dogs had a good jore. ![]() a u s s i e h o u l a |

I read some advice somewhere on using section of bungee cord to absorb shocks, I just wondered if something similar might have helped until re-training completed. Give both dog and skier a little reaction time to minimise accidents. |

Day III
jogs: Me dogs: Lilly, Pacey weather: warm to cool, dry to damp, dusk to dark music: baroque opera, choral, sacred fuel: vegetarian course: rolling hills 6.8mi notes: More new stuff to try out today, we got a couple of secure swivel snap shackles for the chain between dogs, and Lilly got the Ruff Wear harness mentioned elsewhere (because the other one was starting to rub underarms in the way it was being pulled by Pacey). highlights: Lilly's new harness was pretty well adjustable, and she seemed to do okay with it (not riding forward like the other one); it did tilt sideways, but not far. Hopefully it works out for the price (I think it has a stronger ring than Pacey's harness). Pacey may have seen headlights for the first time tonight, because he tried to charge every vehicle until I caught on and gave him some feedback. I had significantly more stamina today (maybe it was all the candy I ate), we only stopped once for the usual water break. ![]() a u s s i e h o u l a |

Day IV
jogs: Me dogs: Lilly, Pacey weather: almost cool, dry with puddles, soft evening sun music: baroque opera, choral, sacred fuel: vegetarian course: rolling hills 6.8mi notes: Lilly's harness wasn't so easy to adjust tonight (loose in one place, tight in another). I think it's a size too big. We'll have to rethink that. highlights: The dogs jored, I jogged, blah, blah, blah. I felt okay to go, then went through harness adjustment hell, then didn't feel great for a couple miles, then snapped out of it for a while, and finally kept a fluid pace (surpassing the dogs like they didn't even care). Pacey faked me out a few times, slowing down, looking like he had to 'go', so I'd stop and he'd look up at me like "what?"... ![]() a u s s i e h o u l a |

Day V
jogs: Me dogs: Lilly, Pacey weather: warm, dry, sunny music: baroque opera, choral, sacred fuel: vegetarian course: rolling hills 6.8mi notes: More fun with gear tonight, I was messing with various pieces of equipment for most of the run. highlights: Tonight I figured out why I shouldn't be using chain. Even though it's small and smooth, it caused a shearing laceration on my leg when Pacey lunged at a bike rider, as I was adjusting Lilly's equipment (not paying attention). I'll try replacing the chain with a low profile climbing sling. Coincidentally the dogs don't seem to like gear adjustment breaks. ![]() a u s s i e h o u l a |

RE: jog joring journal
Day VI
jogs: Me dogs: Lilly, Pacey weather: warm to cool, dry, light breeze, dusk to dark music: baroque opera, choral, sacred fuel: vegetarian course: rolling hills 6.8mi notes: Our gear is working again, I also got a Wind Storm whistle (in case I need to get drivers' attention), and added a night light to my pack for areas without steet lights. We put a couple of ultra soft seat belt comforters around Lilly's "comfortflex" harness for extra padding. highlights: The seat belt comforters stayed in place pretty well on Lilly, so hopefully those will keep her happy. I've been using them myself for a few months (around my neck straps), and they really are ultra soft. Pacey didn't really respond to my ultra loud whistle (I thought it might distract him from roaming toward other dogs), but drivers will probably hear the whistle. I just need a little holster for it. Pacey left a 'soft serve' under the Dairy Queen sign. I found it poetic. ![]() a u s s i e h o u l a |
