bed time = play time?
Regardless of how much play time or exercise Green gets, as soon as I get settled in bed he grabs his stuffed sheep and starts throwing around and smacking me with it until I have no choice but to grab it. I throw it to the bottom of the bed and he pounces like a puppy. Then he thrashed it about and throws it up and down. Finally we have a big game of tug in which he cheats. Then he guts a bit more of the stuffing out and then he settles for the night. All of this takes place on the bed.
Does anyone else's dog want to play at bedtime?

RE: bed time = play time?
Sometimes Fury and Singe take turns bringing me toys. But it's not really at bed time, it's more at settle before bed time if that makes any sense. Usually I watch a bit of tv before bed and they will sometimes empty their large toybox on to my lap wanting to play. I just quietly take each toy and put it behind my back, then they bring me another one. Eventually I'm leaning quite far forward to make room for all of those toys. LOL. Then the settle in and lay down and I put their toys away for them. I'm well trained Smile

RE: bed time = play time?
I don't normally watch tv. I am usually doing something until I go to bed. This explains alot.

Yes Bailey does this all the time to use. We have started to remove toys from our sleep area, but she still sneaks them in.. then she pounces on the bed and drops them on us.. and keeps doing it untill we play..

Loki always brings a toy to bed. He leaves them by the door and grabs them in the morning.

RE: bed time = play time?
Socks sneaks a bone in the bed and either places it beside me so I can roll on top of it, or she chews it very loudly. So I just take it away and give it to her in the morning. If she brings another toy/bone up on the bed I take it away and I show her relaxation actions so she chills out and we both fall asleep. Usually, once I take it away the first time, she'll relax and go to sleep.

RE: bed time = play time?
With Izzy, it's his stuffed soccer ball. (For some reason that's the only stuffed toy he's never tried to destuff.) Every night when I get ready for bed, Izzy heads off toward the bedroom; by the time I go in there he's waiting, perched at the end of the bed with the ball in front of him. He used to try and get me to play with him at that point, but now knows that I won't...so as soon as I lie down he moves up to the head of the bed and flops himself - HARD - right on top of me. Then in the morning the first thing he does is jump up and grab that damned ball again. LOL

Another weird quirk of his: Whenever I'm in the bathroom Izzy just has to follow right along behind with a toy, and he perches it on the edge of the tub. If it doesn't fall in on its own, then he gets upset and pushes until it does. Then he hangs over the edge of the tub, stares at it for a few moments, looks at me and whines (as if I'm his servant and will automatically fetch for him) and finally jumps into the tub and gets it out. Then he starts the whole thing again.

I tell you, all border collies are weirdos.

(P.S. Socks...I love your bc gif!!)

Holly never brings her toys into my bedroom, she has never tried to do so, she just settles down and goes to sleep.

Ah ha ha, Lmao. He is such an ornery boy. Remember that shy fella who wouldn't come out of the corner, he's out. I can see it all so perfectly, it is what his momma does just before I take her out for the last time before bed. Gotta love him, he is so dang cute. Like watching a black bear do the puppy pounce.

It doesn't make me angry or even annoyed. I always play with him so I know I encourage the behavior. It is so nice to see him out of the corner and doing the puppy pounce I encourage it as much as possible. You are right Rayeann that is exactly what he looks like.. a black bear (Remember when I was afraid to let him out at the cabin at night?). I just love to see him all out playing and so happy to be doing so. He is still changing and I still love watching it all unfold.

Ned does this same thing and like you we know we've pretty much created/encouraged the behavior. Working on squashing it. It can be pretty funny though...if my wife turns in before I do when I come up to bed Ned will typically have stacked 5 or 6 toys right next to her on the bed while she's out cold...about 6 inches from her head. I watched him do it once when he did not realize I was watching...if I had that on video...

Bed time is the ONLY time Harvey wants to play! Well, I say bed time, it's more like just before bed when we are lying on the sofa watching tv then BAM Harvey jumps on the sofa and plays tug with your hair >Sad haha, sometimes he brings you a toy, mostly he just wants to annoy us I think Tongue

Oh yeah, Ben's favourite trick. We get into bed and it's playtime, even though he's just been sleeping on the sofa! Only one who has done it though, and he's a strange little pup anyway!

So, don't worry Kelly, your dog is as sane as mine Wink

When I go to bed, Harlow will run in circles in my room barking like crazy. Then she'll throw her 'alien' toys on the bed and stare at them. I don't know how long she stares, I'm sure long enough

RE: bed time = play time?
Sally has a last burst of attacking all her toys just before bed time...I have to stop her in the end, as she gets so excited that she starts to bark.
It's first thing in a morning when she brings toys upstairs....puts them on the bed or pushes the bathroom door open to deposit something inside...not fun if you're in the shower and a blast of cold air hits you!
