Yey - go puppy!
So I was thinking, there are a lot of threads to help puppy owners with their training problems but nothing dedicated to celebrating their successes. It can be easy to get bogged down by the things we have yet to learn and forget why it is that we love our puppies and to recognise their progression - both structured and the unexpected!

Please, show off about how amazing your puppy is here! Big Grin

...ok, I'll get the ball rolling.

It's not something we've picked up from books or from puppy school but somehow Keira and I have evolved our play sessions today to the point where she recognises the name of one of her toys - the duck (probably because every time she plays with it I encourage her by saying "yey, go on, kill the duck" lol). So when I realised this, I started hiding it around the living room and helped her find it - I don't know how but she picked it up super fast. Now she responds to "find the duck" and she goes hunting and picks it out. Yey - go puppy! Big Grin

So go on, what fantastic or unexpected thing has your puppy picked up lately?

We are catching the disc and getting it brought straight back pretty well, I made a thread about it because I thought it was a big deal.

RE: Yey - go puppy!
I have almost perfected Harveys "spin" he does it when I wave my hand around him most of the time now yay! And I am currently working on "BANG" (play dead by making a gun with your hand). But so far I still have to lure him into position! So after I do bang, next will be roll over, which for some reason he finds hard haha! He knows "touch" and "watch me" pretty well & I've started teaching him the "Look at that" game so that he can get over his car chasing! All in all he is doing pretty good and will go to bed when instructed Big Grin. I can actually leave two doggy treats on each paw and tell him to leave it. But he doesn't know when he is allowed it haha so he just sits staring at the treats! Silly puppy!

JEALOUS! Lol!
I am going to recruit friends to run around and do all sorts of crazy stuff to help me with Harveys recall! He must pay attention to me at all times, I will bring his ducky toy out to make him more attracted to me Tongue

Well Holly's not a puppy, but above all the tricks i have taught, the best thing so far is her making a friend, and being off lead with this friend, while being relaxed and not worried about him, and today letting him in her garden, two years ago she would not let a dog anywhere near her, even if they were in the distance she would bark, but know she is fine with them in open spaces, and dogs in the distance do not worry her at all!.

RE: Yey - go puppy!
Bailey just got done with his first time at the groomers and did great.

For 20 dollars she bathed him, brushed him, clipped his nails, did something with his teeth, clipped his "buttflaps" and gave him a new bandana! Pretty good deal and I was glad that he did well for her.

Lol... well, I don't know what else to call them. That's what they look like (whatever they may be)!

I don't have a pic, unfortunately... I really wanted one, but he is all-of-a-sudden afraid of the camera. Like, he runs away when I pull it out... he has been a little more skittish lately than usual, but I think it's just a phase.

I like it, knew exactly what you meant straight away lol.

Maybe he's exploring his spirituality and is worried about the camera stealing his soul?...that or it is just a puppy phase. Wink Why haven't Kong invented some sort of Kong-cam? That would be cool.

RE: Yey - go puppy!
Had to dig up this thread to talk about our experience at the dog park yesterday... it was great.

Yesterday was the first day that it was relatively dry over there, so we packed up the frisbee (big mistake, lol) and a tennis ball (big mistake to bring only one) and some cheese (big mistake #3, if you're counting) to do some training with all the dogs/people around.

It was Bailey's first time there and I honestly thought when we took his leash off that he would just bolt away and run/play fetch with all the other crazy dogs. There had to have been at least 50 dogs there and more people... it was an awesome sight. So, we took his leash off and opened the second door of the double gate, he just sat right next to us.

We started walking down the pathway and he stayed within ~15 feet of us at all times. He would go up to other people and just sit next to them, waiting for some petting. I was quite surprised that he didn't take part in the huge wrestling/chase match that was taking place in the middle of the park. It looked like a doggy mosh pit. We took out the frisbee and played catch for awhile, until some other dogs noticed the frisbee and cheese and instantly swarmed us. Pretty soon we had about twelve dogs around us sitting/drooling/trying to get at the frisbee and cheese. Bailey sniffed around a little and played a little bit, until I threw the ball and they all took off after it. Bailey came back early because a rottie mix got the ball and ran away with it... lol.

Anyway, my dog was a perfect gentleman and people were swooning over him because he was more interested in sitting pretty to be pet than going nuts at the park like we expected. When it was time to leave, he followed us right to the gate and we left without a fight.

That's more than I can say for the lady that spent ~15 mins chasing her two cardigan welsh corgis around to get them leashed and out of there, lol!
