Toads are NOT good for dogs (OK K)

Got this email today so I thought I would pass it on.

Toads are not edible. Especially for dogs. Many of the most common toads in the world, the Sonoran Desert Toad, the Cane Toad and the Marine Toad among them, are deadly to dogs as soon as they enter the mouth. Plus all toads secrete a poisonous substance from their skin that can make a dog sick. If a toad soaks itself in a dog's outside water bowl, the water in the bowl can become toxic as well. If you live in the lands of the toads, avoid leaving pet water sitting outside at night and discourage interest in those slimy hoppers whenever possible.

Most of the toads we have in our area, Midwest US, are not poisonous but can cause a dog to be sick. If the dog bites a toad the dogs mouth will foam and the dog could start to vomit. Hose the dogs mouth out and watch for signs of distress, call the vet if needed.

FYI, the dog will not get warts on it's tongue.

Is it the same with little common tree frogs? Or those big jumping bullfrogs like we have here?

Only toads have the white juice that comes out of their glands.

Ewww....the thought of a bullfrog makes me physically sick. I always dump Green's pool and water dish because I am afraid of toads getting in them. I always wondered if it could make him sick.
