The Best Food ?
Hi
What is the best kind of food for Border Collies.
The gentleman we got Daisy from told us to feed her on a fresh meat diet & stay away from dried food.
Any advice please.
James

Re: The Best Food ?
We feed Canidae All Life Stages They're doing great on it. Lots of energy, bright, clear eyes, super soft coat, and they still get excited for it

Where are you?

If you are UK based...Fish 4 dogs is good (this is a dried food), lots of people with BC's use CSJ....if you are looking to raw feed then it needs a lot of looking into.

I think raw is best, you'll need to do a bit research first though so you're feeding everything they need. It seems complicated but once you get into it, it's actually really simple. Smile

Re: The Best Food ?
I have fed a lot of different foods and recommend Taste of the Wild and Eagle Pack a lot. I usually feed Canidae though cause it has always been readily available and is a good food, but now that a Tractor Supply Co. opened up I may start feeding Taste of the Wild again.

Currently they are eating Purina One, cause so many people have said it improves their coat and I was curious.

but still not sure if this is the right approach.

Re: The Best Food ?
I have never been confident enough to feed raw - I know several dogs who have had issues with bones - however - I also know several people who swear by it.

The reason there are so many foods on the market is that different things will suit different dogs.

I know of a couple of dogs who are on the worst food imaginable...but when one was changed he developed constipation issues and another lost loads of condition - so the switched back and the dogs are great. If it suits you and your dog then go with it.

Re: The Best Food ?
I fed raw for about a year and a half. IMO, it was more expensive, very time consuming and messy.

Currently I feed Wellness Core and the girls are doing well. I haven't noticed any changes in their coats or weight since going back to kibble.

You can read about some dog foods here.

Re: The Best Food ?
Has anyone tried Dick Van Pattens Natural Balance. It is a all life stage dog food that I am thinking of putting both my dogs on. I have never used this kind of food before. Maggie is 6 months and Zoey is 5 years. Would be great if we only had to buy one kind of food.

Re: The Best Food ?
Natural Balance is a good food. It is often recommended if a dog has allergies because of the limited ingredent list.

I have used the food that comes in the tube as treats many times. Cut into small bits for training, freeze the rest.

Re: The Best Food ?
I've been feeding Kia with Taste of the Wild. She is doing very well on it and has reduced her own intake lately. I don't know if she doesn't like it any more or she just can't stay in the house long enough to eat when there are squirrels, rabbits, bugs, etc. outside to chase or stare at.

Re: The Best Food ?
I feed both of mine Taste Of The Wild. It is by far my most favorite dog food in the world to feed. Maggie is doing amazing on it! For the first time in two years she looks fed. Lmao.

Re: The Best Food ?
we were advise to almost only feed dry food to the puppies by both our breeders (one ridgeback & one border collie)

we feed em hills science diet for large dogs (cos the ridgey needs extra calcium):
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.hillspet.com/hillspet/products/scienceDiet/scienceDiet.hjsp">http://www.hillspet.com/hillspet/produc ... eDiet.hjsp</a><!-- m -->

they get raw mince or a bone or tuna occasionally as a treat.

we notice their digestion system isalways happist on only dy food - they can get upset tummies on everythign else
