Snake in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife sends me a text while I'm trying to work stating she had a snake in her car. It turns out it was a gopher snake that took animal control to remove. Amazing, purely amazing.

RE: Snake in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAHA
I was at the vets getting the dogs their rabies boosters and what not, I see a couple car partially pull into the driveway and then stop for a while. A few minutes later I see two guys hovering around my car. Meanwhile I'm at the front desk paying and the dogs are in the car. I'm thinking PLEASE do NOT stick ANY fingers or w/e in the windows. The dogs are barking their heads off and the guys come in a sit down with their dog. After a few minutes they ask if that's "my little red car", I say yes... why. They proceed to tell me that a snake was in the drive way so they moved it to the grass so it wouldn't get hurt, and they saw it crawl under my car. I'm thinking 'no big deal' (I don't have an issue with snakes), I'll just check while I'm far away and make sure it's not a rattler. I'm approaching my car and this guy comes running and screaming at me in Spanish from the house across the street not to get into my car, there's a snake in it. (Remember all three of the dogs are in the back seat) We look in through the windows, no snake in the floor boards so I pop the hood. .... The snake decided my engine compartment was a MUCH more suitable location than the grass. The guy runs home and gets one of those handle-stick-pinchy-pinky-upper things (the technical name lol) and grabs the snake which lets out a big hiss and proceeds to slither through the pinchy part and back into my engine. Now that we've determined that it's a 5 foot long 2.5inch diameter-pissed off gopher snake, it's wound itself up against the fire wall on top of the differential where we couldn't reach it from above. (freaking perfect) THEN a get a call that my mother in law is stranded and I have to go first find and then retrieve her. I'm starting to get a little bit stressed, I still need to drop off the dogs, there's an effing snake in my car, I'm having visions of the blasted thing crawling out from under the dash and onto my lap or something while driving home and now I have to find Mary?? (LOL- wasn't so funny at the time) I bite the bullet and drive home to drop off the dogs and pray that it a) doesn't craw out from under the dash, and b) falls out on the way home. I drop off the dogs and pop the hood. Damn. Still there. Fernando... Lj's uncle has the brilliant idea to use one of those handle-stick-pinchy-pinky-upper things. Awesome, lets piss it off some more. It's not reachable from above and appears to have set up camp. I set off for my mechanic since I can see part of the tail from under the car and figure he can throw the car on the lift and yank it out. While driving I'm thinking... he's gonna charge me an arm and a leg for this, so I stop around the corner at the animal control office, where a couple of my buddies work. (we worked together at the shelter) Both those dorks laugh at me saying ONLY I would have this problem. A third animal control officer is called in and 40 min later the snake is chilling in the field behind their office. What a stupid day this has been.

RE: Snake in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was having visions of it crawling out from under the dash into my lap, and then the dogs flipping out and trying to get it from my lap... and then stup--- I mean BennE getting excited and wanting to be in my lap too...while driving. Then visions of Mary (Lj mom) being in the car and it crawling into HER lap and then Mary thinking I did it on purpose (The m.i.l/d.i.l war is over) and then all hell breaking loose.

RE: Snake in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LD, I love your description of the event! So funny. That is quite a predicament. Sound like a pretty big gopher snake too. I think mine was about 5 feet long too. Most people were intimidated by her but she was very docile and never aggressive. Hissed a couple times. I bet yours was really stressed. My snake (named Merlin) was a wild one given to me by a friend. Had her (or him, not really sure...) for 5 years. Awesome snakes. Mine never bit anybody.
ETA: once saw a 7+ foot gopher snake down at the creek by the high school. At first I thought it was someone's escaped pet python. It was probably 2.5" wide as well - maybe 3" at the widest. Mine maybe got to 2" wide. When she died she was around 1.5" wide. Brandon Lance & Mick ![]() "Don't think of it as a problem. Think of it as an opportunity for a solution!" |

RE: Snake in the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As long at that snake was still in the engine there would have been no way I would have gotten back in that vehicle.
You are far more brave than me. My hat is off to you.
