Six month puppy with stiff legs
My collie pup is six months old and has stiff back legs. He's stiff when he gets up but it wears off when he walks around a little.
I just wondered if anyone else had experience of this. He's going to the vets tuesday to get it looked at, but I'm quite worried about it. |

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
Is he insured?
Hopefully it will just be growing pains. Were his parents hip scored? Do you know what the scores were? Hannah The only mistakes my dogs make are the ones I've taught them!

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
Stiffness in the legs does not always mean leg problems, could be back related also.
Hoping everything is OK, let us know how it goes. Linda One Border Collie Is Never Enough |

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
THanks for your replies, yes I have insurance - up to 4K per condition over his lifetime, but I don't think his parents are hip scored, they're family pets and I didn't want to ask the owner in case I'm just panicking. It's just horrible to see him lying here, getting up all stiff and he really doesn't like the stairs. We thought he'd hurt his leg at first, but this has been going on for nearly a week now.
I've got him booked in the vets for tuesday. |

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
6 months old, I would go along with growing pains. Some glucosamine chondroitin treats wouldn't hurt. Hope all is well. (((HUGS)))

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
Well took him to the vets today after I phoned the online vet attached to my insurance policy, explained how I thought he had a sore leg etc etc, took his temp which was 39.something, then told me they think he has immune mediated poly-arthritus.
She did a blood test which showed his white cells as a little high and he's going for an x-ray on thursday. Since then i've spoken to oiginal owner who says there is no history of hip probs at all. I think it's too much of a coincidence that I had a normal pup until he hurt his leg and now he suddenly has this condition. So not sure. GOing to do some reading up and let him rest and recover at his own pace. (Vet said his legs are fine by the way, when I know they're not as he isn't putting weight on one of them) |

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
I don't think it i the poly-arthritus. He's sore at the back where he fell. Going for the x-ray thurs and a completely different vet of friday for a second opinion.

So sorry, hope it all works out. How and when did he fall? Think I missed that.

RE: Six month puppy with stiff legs
He fell in the mud chasing his ring and landed awkwardly. Limping when he got home. He's as bright as a button this morning though, so fingers crossed.
