Shaken Up
I experienced one of the scariest moments of my life today.

We were all down by the dock, enjoying the sunshine, and the dogs were sunbathing and such. Nitro was walking around just enjoying the sunshine when he misjudged the length of the dock, and fell in the water.

He went under the water and then scariest of all, under the dock. I probably should have remained calm but I started screaming and shrieking. He isn't a super experienced swimmer and I was so terrified of him drowning.

I jumped in, clothed and all, and couldn't see him under the dock. I cannot even begin to find the words to convey just how scared I was when I realized I couldn't see him. I honestly thought he was gone, and that I was never going to see him again.

I'm yelling and screaming and my heart is pounding and then I hear my husband say "here he is!" I'm out of the water and there he is standing there soaking wet looking terrified. So I run to him and pick his soaking little tiny body up and just hold him. (And then toweled him off and told him how sorry I was and that I was so happy he was okay.)

turns out he had swam all the way under the dock and a little ways down the lake and then climbed up on the bank.

He is such a brave boy.

RE: Shaken Up
Sorry you had such a scare but they usually do manage to swim quite well at a young age. He probably didn't know what all the fuss was about.

Big hugs to all of you, I can imagine how frightened you were. Maybe you have a natural dock jumper on your hands. Eusa_dance

So glad he is ok. Lucky was a jumper. He swam under the dock on me one day. He wasn't a puppy and I was terrified. I can't imagine how you felt.

In their short lives our pets give us all they can...their friendship, unselfish love, and total loyalty.

RE: Shaken Up
If he is scared of water now, there was a thread about it, by step by step desensitising approach took about a month to go from fear of water, to happily swimming by small "under-threshold" steps.
