Lol... most random image ever.

Also, these might be some great rules, but they can't even get their "N's" right.

3 weeks until D-day...

Come to my room. My kids learn this. I am nicer about it because they are 10 but they get it. I believe it is ever teacher's job to provide academic and life lessons.

I completely agree with all of these. The idea that there aren't winners & losers (and no scorekeeping so no one feels "bad"!) and that everyone should get a trophy just for showing up is just ridiculous. Life doesn't work that way, so why teach kids to expect it? Kelly, we need more teachers like you.

Thank you. I don't ever say it in a nasty way. I try to teach them that the world has expectations. No one is going to say "Oh you didn't get all of your job done today, well that is ok I know you had baseball yesterday". Life does not work that way and I think we are doing a terrible disservice to our kids. I tell them I don't like to correct papers or write my plan book but that is my homework and I do it because it is my job. I tell them flat out that if I don't there are people just waiting to take my job if I don't do it correctly and give 100%.

I think school should be more competitive. That some schools have no failing grade is ridiculous. When I was in school it was competitive and there were winners, those who worked their butts off, and losers who just didn't care or try. And those people are in their respective places in society now doing things that reflect how they were as students. Teach them to win and they will have a better chance to accomplish something. And let those who are failing know it - don't baby them.

I completely agree Brandon. Our school still puts failing grades on report cards. Otherwise parents do not get a true read of where their children are struggling. When children are failing we need to give them every tool and opportunity to succeed. That is my job as a teacher. Some, sadly, will not care enough to make an effort. I see this as early as the 4th grade. It is very sad but it is true. I wish there was more I could do for those children but I cannot take them home.

Yeah that might be considered kidnapping! Laughing-smiley-004 You know, the teachers I remember most and probably had the most impact on my life were the ones that pushed their students to succeed, and really cared. The sort that would keep you after class to explain that I needed to do better and show me how, rather than just teach the class and let the students go and seem to care less what grades the students got. I did have a few of those teachers as well. Here in Sonora the teachers are not so good. Maybe there are some good ones but I didn't meet any when I was here for my senior year. Back in Corvallis, Oregon the teachers were amazing.

I actually skipped a lot of my senior year here because it was a waste of time. The curriculum is pathetic. It was like going back to middle school. So I usually just went in for tests and finals and still graduated on time.

RE: Rule Kids Won't Learn In School
I have a few students struggling with math. I started doing math lunches during my lunch. They stay in the classroom with me for tutoring. We eat lunch and I bring a snack. The kids love it and their math is improving! Some people say "you are crazy - it is your lunch". Yeah it is but if they are 10 and willing to work through lunch then I am a piss poor (my grandmother's saying) role model if I am not willing to also.
