RE: Leash Makers
Hey girl, I could post pictures of the leads I make, but they are just for sheep herding uses, so they aren't 'real' leashes. Probably not what you're looking for?

RE: Leash Makers
Here are some that I made, you can buy all the parts for VERY little online in bulk and then its just a little folding and sewing of any material you like. Very fun to do. I will try to find the website I bought all my parts from. I havent made in awhile. Just dont have time these days, but seeing these pics are making me want to do it again Big Grin

RE: Leash Makers
I bought a collar and leash when I first had Jess but I never use them now and they've been in the cupboard for over a year. When we go out, I carry a 9' length of braided nylon cord that stuffs into my pocket easily and is handy for just-in-case but I seldom use it.

Looking back, when I first got Jess, I spent lots of cash on pet shop stuff that I just didn't need. Leads, collars, toys, dog beds... just a waste of money. Ahh, the commercialization of dog ownership! $10 for a leash when a length of old string does the job just as well.

RE: Leash Makers
LD, these are the leashes that i am making for my kids and one of the long lines that i made.....the light leash is Titches and is a light blue, the orange one is Kilt's and the purple is Saoirse's in the making...haven't started Tir's yet (green)...they are a 4 strand braid.....

the long line is just a 3 cord braid and i put knots at sections to have something to grip better....at the one end is a double knotted area to hook the hook between to make a handle.....

RE: Leash Makers
Are the long leads like training leads?? i have two of those for my dogs very good but you get a nice friction burn from the ones i have, all the leads and collars look great.

RE: Leash Makers
They all look great what size/type cord do you use i would love to make one for Shadow that i can use as a long line, i made one out of a cheap washing line but it was a quick fix at the time and wont last much longer.

the stuff i use is like a lighter repelling rope.....i'll check to see what it is tomorrow and get back w/ you.....

so far, when it's been pulled fast in my hands it's rubbed good but i haven't gotten a burn from it....and all the ones i've made have held up real well to lots of use...i still have 4 of them and have given away others....cost me about $6-7 to make a 30(+)' long line.....the leashes are just a bit more than 5'....

thanx, well ive just looked up 4 strand braiding and got a craft sheet so im going to practice that with some string lol, would like to do a lead too, it looks a lot nicer than 3 strand, and stronger.

RE: Leash Makers
When I finish my long lead that I'm making using paracord I'll post a pic. I'm also using a carabiner as the clip. The idea is to bring it on camping trips and long hiking trips. Having paracord around for emergencies is a good thing. The stuff is extremely strong and can be used for a million things in a survival situation. So having a 50'+ of it with a single 10' lead (4 line braid), plus a carabiner is smart. I want to make a 35' one so that's a lot of 550 paracord. You can also buy them already made: http://www.paracordpaul.com/tag/paracord-dog-leash/

Here's a short tutorial on making them: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-M...rom-Parac/
