Green's itchy ear
Poor green just started shaking his head and scratching his ear. Hr is fittinhia back foot into his ear and scratching. I tries to wipe his ear out with a washcloth but he was rolling all over and I was also afraid to hurt him. Bob thinks he got into something outside. There is an odor but I can't tell if it's the ear or something he got into outside. He isnalso shaking his head. I would like tongive him some refief until I can get him to the vet.
Thanks

Re: Green's itchy ear
could be infected fox tail-like thing, could be mites, could be bug bite, could be a bug (two guesses who THIS happened to... ), When ours do things like this, Lj holds and I investigate. Hard to say though, ears are difficult cause you dont wanna put stuff into them. Let us know!!

Re: Green's itchy ear
HE was crazy going st it last night when I made that post. Then Bob brought him a chewy and he got interested in tht and really hasn't bothered the ear since. Last night he was shakig his head too. Bob said he's been outside and under the trees and digging up the rose bushes so maybe something he is allergic to or somethig. I'm going to make a vet appt just to be safe.

Re: Green's itchy ear
Let us know how Green is. Shaking head, scratching, odor, could be mites. I don't think we have fox tails this side of the Mississippi.

Re: Green's itchy ear
I didn't know what fox tails were. I've had a car with ear mites when I was a kid but I read those are also signs of an ear infection so better a trip to the vet for nothing than to let something go. I don't k ow how we will get him there or home since he is terrified of the car. His harness will definitely need to be used so he doesn't pull out of his collar and take off.

Re: Green's itchy ear
Sorry Kelly I did mean to add ear infection as well. Kya had her legs crossed and needed to go now.

Re: Green's itchy ear
I would check for dark junk in her ear if you can get her to hold still. She may just need them cleaned. I put some ear wash I got from the vet on a cotton ball and just push it in as far as I can without losing it then try to clean out as much stuff as I can. You can also try Q-Tips but gently. Dog's ears are made in such a way that you cannot hurt the ear drum but be careful anyway.

Re: Green's itchy ear
Yep, Debby. That is what I would do, then I would clean the ear with an ear cleaning solution. Stitches use to get this alot, I added the ear wash to my doggy medical bag. Sometimes, not unlike us, they just get an itch way down in the ear and have to do whatever they can to make it feel better. Eusa_dance

Re: Green's itchy ear
Green has not touched his ear since that night. Bob saw on tv this morning how to spring clean your dog and they said clean the ears with witch hazel on a cotton ball. Lauren cleaned his ear up (it was really dirty!) and he's napping happily.

RE: Green's itchy ear
He started scratching again and I took him to the vet. (Green's first vet visit)
He had alot of wax and an infection. Got ear wash and medicine. We need to use the ear wash weekly now. Boy is it yucky when we wipe his ear out.
Thank you so much for asking about him! So kind of you.

RE: Green's itchy ear
All of that black stuff?? yuck His daddy must of had the dirty ear gene because Silky's are very clean (per her vet visit for vaccinations). Stitches had ear issues, that is why I have the wash and meds. She loved to swim and when water got in her ear she would have a problem.
Silky and me send lots of love hugs and kisses to our boy. Cuddle

RE: Green's itchy ear
Yep Rayeann, all of that icky black stuff. That is the wax in his poor little ears. Lauren does a great job of cleaning him up. She puts the wash in, and massages him so the wash gets down into the canal, then (after he shakes) she cleans out that black icky stuff with wet cotton, and puts the medicine in. He hates it but he takes it. I think he knows it makes his ears feel better in the long run.
He has to get them done tonight, as we are off to the lake for a sleepover tomorrow.

Your boy says thanks for the hugs and kisses. He sends them back to both of you!
We were gone for the day today and since we got home he is laying with Lauren or laying with his head on my lap. He is such a good little bear.
