Fire tragedy
A few streets over from us there was a house fire during the night last night. Family of 5. Four made it out. A 12 year old girl died at her window. Bob is a volunteer firefighter. He carried her out in a body bag.
Hug your families and fur babies tonight. Terrible reminder of how very fortunate we all are.

RE: Fire tragedy
I always feel like crying when I hear things like this. My sister is 12 and if anything ever happened to her...I don't know what I'd do. My thoughts are with this family. I'll be hugging everyone a little (or lot) closer tonight.

RE: Fire tragedy
The mother and 5 year old are in critical condition in a burn center snout an hour and a half from here. Mother is in worse shape than the 5 year old. Father and 15 year old son treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital. Poor dog and cat lost their lives too.

RE: Fire tragedy
Sad How sad. Prayers will definitely be said for the family. (Do I smell another fundraiser?) That's terrible about the daughter.

RE: Fire tragedy
Well LD this is a good question. Something should, without a doubt be done for these people. It is quite tricky as I don't know them at all. I didn't do anyjing yesterday because Bob was wo involved with the police investigation (the dog they brought in from Harrisburg was amazing!) and he was so upset about carrying out a 12 year old in a body bag. I think tomorrow I will put out some feelers and see if something is in the works. If not then I know where to begin.

RE: Fire tragedy
Thank you so much. I'm fine. We didn't know them at all. Bob is just upset because he carried the body out.

RE: Fire tragedy
I guess I need to restate the above. Bob is having a harder time with this than I thought. A 12 year old girl died. Even though the fire was the most intense he has ever been in in his almost 30 years in the fire service, and the first floor was engulfed before the fire department was called, he is having a harder time than he has in a long time. He even entered the building by himself, which should never happen. They tried, in vain to find her, but by the time they did it was too late.
He is battling with the question of whether there was something else they could have done? The poor little girl was found near her bedroom window. He just keeps saying if it was Lauren...he is even upset about finding the dead cat.
I guess it is something that changes your life in a way we can empathize with but not truly understand.

RE: Fire tragedy
He is much better today. I think he just had to talk it out. Unfortunately this is the second child thst has lost their life to fire in this town. Both from smoke inhalation. It has been over 10 years since rhe first and many homes have been saved. I guess it is normal to second guess and what if.
No new news on the mother and the other child yet.
