Fire Scare
We get a lot of wildfires around here and today one got too close for comfort. I took this photo from my front yard.

I keep my eye on this http://cdfdata.fire.ca.gov/incidents/incidents_current. I've been wondering which if these were close to you

Re: Fire Scare
The top two on that list are both near here. It's been pretty smoky the last few days from the Knight fire. The fire that burned to within a quarter mile of my house is not yet on that list. It broke out sometime this morning and, I believe, it is now 100% contained.

If we ever have to evacuate I'm prepared. I have water and packs with everything we would need to survive for a week or more. And I have a 4 wheel drive loaded with everything so I can just get in and hit the road in minutes.

Thats smart, we really should do that. I feel like we're gambling since we dont have a fire kit or an earthquake kit. Dangerous game! It just never seems to be the right time to spend a bunch of money on stuff that doesn't 'seem' to be immediately needed. Ya know? At the same time though, how can we NOT afford to?

Yeah it's definitely a good idea. I haven't been ready in the past but this year I went ahead and through some stuff together. I'm a member of Jeep forum and people on there got me into the whole "survivalist" thing so I've been working on preparing for whatever disaster might strike (fire, earthquake, aliens, zombies, etc.) Speechless-smiley-033

Eish!, from your front yard! That's way too close for comfort! We go into panic mode here as soon as we see smoke, it's not a great time of year from that point of view.

Are you prepared for looting? My survival kit includes my Remington 870 for those close encounters of the first kind. Tailwag

Sharks, fires, looting, earthquakes, animals of the carnivores kind, aliens, zombies, etc. WOW Speechless-smiley-003 With all that going on it's a wonder anyone would want to live in California.

We "might" have an occasional tornado but that's about it. Cold Wisconsin doesn't sound so bad after all.

If looting was a problem I'm covered pretty well. I have a mossberg 12ga(would rather have your Rem 870), an XD .45 compact, a marlin .30-30 lever action, a savage .30-06, a semi-auto .22 rifle, and an old Mosin Nagant rifle Smile Ammo on the other hand could be an issue long term..

ETA: I inherited all my firearms except the XD pistol which I bought for target shooting and to have a pistol in case I ever needed one. The Mosin Nagant is an antique from WW2 but it still shoots straight and is chambered in 7.62 x 54 mm which is relatively cheap.

Same here in Ohio, I will take thunderstorms and tornado warnings and watches over fire. I am not affraid of fire, but the devistation is sooo horrible.
