Excited weeing
Recently Ludo has started weeing with excitement, when he greets people out in the street. Is there anything I can do to stop this or will it just stop on it's own as it did with my friends dog?

He isn't showing signs of being nervous, just over the moon with glee.

RE: Excited weeing
My GR, Abbie, used to do this lots as a puppy, especially with one really special guy from our street who made the most enormous fuss of her when he first met her when she was tiny and she never forgot.

Whenever she saw this guy, she'd pull towards him and if we let her out the back to play, she'd home straight in on his gate! It was like "Never mind Daddy, where's Mike?" Unfortunately, this guy passed away last year and she still goes over there by default. She knows where he lived, but I guess all the smells are gone now - it's all quite sad, really.

Anyway, Abbie stopped naturally after she was (I guess) about 6 months. She did do it quite a lot as a puppy though, TBH.

Saffy has done this also, but only about twice.

I'm sure Ludo will be OK in the long run ... Big Grin

RE: Excited weeing
Finn used to do this when meeting other dogs, I haven't seen it in a while!! and was told he would most likely grow out of it as long as that's just what it was - excitement!

RE: Excited weeing
I've read that most dogs do outgrow it as they mature, though there's some dogs who never do. In the majority of cases though, it's just a stage...most likely their excitement - or fear, depending on the circumstances - outweighing the ability for their little bladders to hold it in. Izzy was an excitement pee-er too, most notably around my niece and an older male neighbour. It did start to peter out when he was around 6-7 months old, though he would still do it on occasion for a while. I actually haven't seen him do it now in at least the past 2-3 months, so hopefully it's a thing of the past.

hehe...whenever I was meeting someone in the street and had Izzy with me, I had to give them fair warning. I'd tell them that his name was 'Whizzy-Izzy', and they had to be careful because he was known to spring leaks. Wink

RE: Excited weeing
Harvey did this for a short while, used to pee his little pants whenever he saw another dog... or person! Its not happened for a few months... So I guess Ludo will grow out of it. One of my neighbours had a Border Collie called Alfie when I lived in England, and he used to do it out of fear I think, everytime I took him for a walk and people walked past he would piddle! But only when he was a pup Smile

Seren still does it occasionally now aswell. She hadn't done it for a long time and then on of my daughters friends called for her today and she did a big one lol. Must have been making up for all the ones she missed.

RE: Excited weeing
Oh, I'm still embarrassed at the thought- neighbours called me in to see their new flooring, and shouted at little puppy Sally to come inside too. She was so excited that she did a mini widdle on the brand new floor we'd come to praise.....Sad
