I really think if I didn't have another dog Patches would not eat. We adopted her 7 years ago when I was in 7th grade so of course I was still at home with my parents. Anyway I used to have the hardest time getting her to finish a bowl of food. I would tell one of my family members to walk by her bowl so she would eat. Idk why it bugged her when they walked past but not me. Or she would just let it sit all day and some days not even eat it in the evening.
When I moved out to college I took Patches with me and I adopted another dog. At this same time I switched her to Blue Buffalo brand food. She started eating like she truly liked the food, but idk if it is because Bolt came in on the scene or because she liked the food. Fast forward a year she has eaten every meal as soon as it is put down, I do not have Bolt anymore RIP, but bf and I got a lab pup. So Patches still eats well with another dog around. The last few nights however I see her just standing front of her bowl staring at her food like "why do I have to eat." Anyone else have a Border like this?H *UPDATE I think it is her hylasport supplement that is keeping her from eating. I added the new EB in with her old food and she started eating. So I wanted to figure out what she dislikes, put one scoop of hylasport and she stopped eating. Tried to mix wet food in but she just ate a couple bites and quit. I left it down for 20min then tossed it. Did just dry kibble and she ate it all. Meagan & Patches ![]() born 6/1/03 gotcha 4/3/04

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
Zoe used to not eat. It started when she was about 3. I couldn't keep weight on her so I started adding things to her kibble. When I added plain yogurt she started eating again.
Ever since all the dogs get a dollop of yogurt on their kibble every morning. Hasn't been a non eaten meal since. Linda One Border Collie Is Never Enough |

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
Saffy is and always has been a meat processing factory!
She eats her food in seconds and then backs away and lies down ready to jump in when Abbie has finished with hers. We did have a bit of a problem a while ago because I think Abbie was really feeling pressured to be done with her eating and then to move away; so much so that we had to either stand between them to make sure Abbie had finished or put Saffy in the crate to give Abs some peace and quiet. At one point, I had to coax Abbie TO the bowl to start eating. To be fair to Saffy, she was on steroids at the time which were giving her a HUGE appetite. All seems fine again now, though. Saffy will still finish in record time and hang about on the offchance of a bowl-lick after Abbie, but Abbie usually finishes about 95% of her food first.

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
Quest never wants to eat her food, she just picks at it and Jill will gobble hers down the second its placed in front of her. Not sure what makes one want to eat over the other. I guess Quest is just picky.

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
Holly eats her food, sometimes she will leave some, she seems to go through a couple of days of doing this, this doesn't happen much though, my auntie's bc is picky about her food, although you wouldn't guess this by her weight, because Holly is a skinny thing, and Poppy is about average.

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
When we first brought Finn home he would woof his food down and I was always worried he wasn't chewing if it would hurt his belly lol the past month or so he's not huge on eating. He may finish his bowl or leave a few kibbles or not eat much at all - he's healthy otherwise so I try not to worry about it!

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
I've always said Fergus is the dog with an eating disorder. As a pup getting him to eat was like getting blood from a stone, a few changes of food and a major deworming solved that issue.
He always eats his food now but can take a good 5, sometimes 10 mins about it. He's been known to sit and look at the food, then back at me before eating too. We've always fed the dogs on either side of a stair gate because our late Ellie and the new rescue Dewi were/are speed eaters! Dewi can eat, be toileted and be back in the house by the time Fergus finishes. I was warned from day one from the breeders I spoke to that collies can be 'worried' feeders. - Morwenna and Fergus ![]() 'One of the seven great dogs' |

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
Harvey when he was younger would eat like a horse, then he got into my friends Cocker Spaniels adult food and decided it was better than his and would not eat! So in the past few weeks I have added wet food into his diet along with the dry and he wolfs it down and even licks the bowl clean haha!

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
Last night and this morning she has refused to eat. Last night she had her kibble mixed with wet with her supplements in it. That is a normal evening meal. This morning just plain dry food, also normal. I am getting a bit worried.

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
If you are becoming worried about it then I suggest a vet visit.

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
I hate to jump to the vets right away only because this used to be the norm for her. I just had her to the vets two weeks ago for senior blood draw. She is acting normal otherwise. I hate worrying to soon but if she doesn't eat much by mon she is going in

RE: Do your BCs like to eat?
I should also mention that it appears to be the dog food she doesn't want. She ate a treat and was begging at the dinner table last night. I didn't give her any table scraps because we don't allow that.

Rules my idea out then, i was thinking it might of been this bug Holly had a while back, she would not eat anything, not even chicken!, turns out she had a bug, maybe try switching her food if she doesn't like it. ![]()
