City, Country or Rural?
I thought it might be fun to know what type of area we all live in. We already know where in the world some of us live, which can be added in your profile, so why not the area.

Do you live in the City, Country or a Rural area? (I consider a rural area to be just out of the city but still close enough to enjoy the conveniences.)

I live in the country, the boondocks, the boonies, China, just a few names my friends have used to described our area.
The closest city to buy groceries is 18 miles and if we want to shop it is 50 miles.
I live on what is called a "destination" road. The only people who drive this road are the people who live on it.
We are surrounded by woods and fields. I see more animals in any given day than I do people.

RE: City, Country or Rural?
I live fairly close to town. But I would consider it rural. The road I live on connects two highways so we do get quite a bit of traffic. But we are out of city limits. We get a lot of Deer, Racoons, Skunks and Squirrels. We also get the occasional Mountain Lion in the area and usually see a couple Rattle Snakes a year.

There are quite a lot of homes around me as it's one of the only flat places to build in the area.

RE: City, Country or Rural?
City girl here (blech). I've always wanted to live in the countryside but it just never worked out that way. My next-door neighbours are so close I could probably hear them snoring at night - if my hearing worked like it should. Wink Like so many others who live in the city, my dream is to some day have land...maybe 10 acres or so...with lots of fields, a nearby forest, and four-legged neighbours all around.

Izzy is a transplanted country boy though; he grew up on a farm, so when I got him at almost 9 weeks old, it was quite the culture shock for him. But he can now be considered 'citified'.

RE: City, Country or Rural?
I live outside of the Capital of Scotland Big Grin Its great for dog walking, there is a HUGE country park about 2 minutes from my house. There is a huge field behind my house which apparently used to have cows on it till everything became all houseyfied. Theres a river that goes past my house and into the country park. Theres a big park just a few minutes away aswell. Theres loads of farms nearby aswell Smile its great, but theres a 30 minute bus ride to the city, and there is a HUGE shopping centre nearby aswell. So its the best of both worlds Smile

RE: City, Country or Rural?
I'd class where I live as the country, however from your description it would be rural however England being an awful lot smaller than the USA we don't get many places that are really 'the middle of nowhere'.

There are 4 dairy farms, 3 livery yards (about 120 horses in the village) and the odd goat and sheep dotted around. No shops, parks, or convienences other than an old country pub. I love it but know it's going to be short lived as soon as I leave the 'nest'... Sad

I live in the city (in a fairly quiet part of it though). I'd rather live in the country... Bath is surrounded by countryside though so I don't have to go far to find nice places to walk. Smile

RE: City, Country or Rural?
I live "Rural". When we were looking for houses we wanted something with more land and farther away from the City but this is where we ended up - my boyfriend refuses to live in the city though and I kind of agree, I wouldn't like to be able to hear and see everything my neighbours do. We have just under an acre of land and we have neighbours on either side but it is divided enough by brush, trees and yard! Big Grin We are about 20-25 minutes from "town" and maybe another 10-15 from right downtown Halifax - this all depends on who you have driving infront of you though, the speed limit on our road is 70km/hr but people like to drive 50-60....

We can see the ocean from our bedroom patio door and have an amazing pathway along the oceanside (2 hour + walk) just down the street from us so I love where we live. There is also local stores and produce stores nearby, the prices are higher at the convenient stores than in town but the produce is great! Everyone I know jokes and always tells me to go "back to prospect" because I rarely leave the area and go into town! lol maybe once or twice a week!

RE: City, Country or Rural?
City. Blech. But it's a small city, only ~50,000 people, so it's not too bad. I wanted more land, but WOW was it expensive! Someday I'll trade in my small plot for something bigger.

Michelle you made me laugh when you said small city, only 50,000. Our town is only 1,200 on a good day. Icon_lol

RE: City, Country or Rural?
I live in the city but my dogs are raised country! I used to ride horses and I still have access to land outside the city limits. And of course I've hiked in some areas that few people care to venture :-P Best of both worlds really!

RE: City, Country or Rural?
Small city by normal standards, but the biggest in our state.

Our city's population is ~160,000 with ~230,000 in the "metropolitan" area.

28% of the state's population is located in this area.

I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood and am lucky enough to have a large fenced-in backyard.

3 weeks until D-day...

RE: City, Country or Rural?
City but a small one.The nearest supermarket is roughly 45 mins walk but like 10 mins on a bus.Theres houses pretty much everywhere but round where I am u hardly c people which would explain y Kara is unsure when she does see people outside and thats y I walk her to the shop so she gets used to it and she's pretty good now Big Grin.Theres lots of grass for the dogs to run but they'r all next to houses :/ I think it would be pretty gd stayin in the country especially with how quiet it would be but its not a place I would ever live alone lol.
