Chasing tools ie rakes

We've just moved into a small holding but it needs a lot of work. Which Conan hasn't been very helpful with. He keeps attacking anything we use ie rakes or brooms. I know it's a border collie thing but how do I get him to stop cause he has to be put in his crate while we do work at the mo cause the house isn't yet dog safe and it's impossible to have him outside with us.

Maybe bring something into the house and do some training? Just a brush maybe.

Just hold it still, if he reacts tell him firmly 'no' and ask him to move back. Repeat until he grasps the idea that it isn't a toy and he must leave it alone. If he starts looking but doesn't come forward tell him 'leave it' or whatever command you use.

Another option is to give him something fun to do while your doing to chores. Maybe a stuffed Kong with something extra yummy?

This worked for Fergus. Sometimes he still watches the mop but knows he must not attack it. Hopefully this will work for you!

thanks for your reply. I tried doing that yesterday with the rake he kind of understood and wondered off but after a moment came back and started again, ill just have to keep doing it until he leaves it alone completely. i think it may be to do with the noise more than the item itself as when we moved chairs along a wood floor he went nuts for that to. I'm sure we'll get there eventually
