Canen Border collies
If anyone can help -

Quote:I was contacted by a lady over the weekend on behalf of Canen Border collies. Shirley Bell, who has bred the well known line of dual registered border collies for many years, died suddenly last week leaving her non-doggy husband and daughter with the problem of around 60 collies to rehome. I am told that these dog range in age from puppies to old timers and all are dual registered, with the appropriate health check in place. Shirley's family have managed to find someone to take the current litter of puppies and they are keeping one of bitches as a pet, but the rest have to be rehomed as soon as possible. I did not know Shirley or the lady who contacted me but she thought I might be able to help so I said I would let as many people know as possible. I am told that many of this line have done very well in agility and obedience and I think one or two have qualified in trials. The dogs can be seen on the we website http://www.canen.me.uk/ and the contact for anyone interested in a dog is Shirley's daughter Joanne on 01286 880491. Let's hope they all find good homes. http://www.facebook.com/CanenBorderCollies

RE: Canen Border collies
Ugh...that is my biggest fear. Something happening to me and my dogs not properly looked after. Hopefully rescues in the UK can step up and help.

RE: Canen Border collies
I do not think they will go through rescue. I expect they will all be rehomed through the family.

RE: Canen Border collies
Quote:This came up on BC mailing list: I really don't know where this came from but it is misinformation. There is not anything like the number of dogs reported; these dogs DO NOT need re-homing asap, they are all being well cared for by family and friends and will only leave to their forever homes that have been thoroughly vetted and ideally to people that knew Shirley and already have a Canen. Please DO NOT encourage people to inundate Joanna with phone calls at this time, as you can imagine the family are dealing with the sudden loss of a loved one. At such time that the family may feel it necessary to enlist help in re-homing any dogs I have no doubt that they will ask.

I know the thought is well meaning but in cases such as this I think it is worth checking with the family before cross-posting

Cheers
Nat

RE: Canen Border collies
^Thank you for that clarification. How horrible for the family to have to deal with more stress than necessary.

RE: Canen Border collies
Some of the dogs are now being placed on the Canen Facebook page. I know there are a lot of people with dogs from these lines, and some of them are on this board.

RE: Canen Border collies
Awww I hope they manage to find great homes for them all and am really sorry for their loss. I'm quite happy with my boy's so even though I am very close being in Cornwall as I am I don't feel it would be right to take on another dog, I already asked my old boy's hooch and de man to cope with a lot when I brought Ludo in, and I worry another dog, especially an older one would mess with the boy's roles to much, Harley is only just starting to let hooch be the boss, and hooch isn't really that bothered if he is or not, so I am hoping when Ludo starts pushing for top dog the other two won't be all that bothered another boy now, and an older one, I am sure might want the role, and de man would never stand for it. They are beautiful dogs though so I am sure it won't take long to find them loving forever homes.
