Blisters on paws. :C
Tyko has found his new love today, and her name is Swimming Pool.
I took him with me today over to my sisters, and he had a blast, racing to catch up with anyone who was close to the edge of the pool, splashing in the shallow water on the steps, and falling in a few times as well, though he was always near someone to set him back up on the ground. Anyways, after probably about 4 hours of running circles around the pool, he finally got tired, and laid down. We hung out for a little while longer, and then I started to head out to the car, but he didn't want to walk. Instead, after standing up, he just flopped back down again. I just figured he was tired, so I carried him to the car. Once we got back home, I carried him inside too, since he was still half-asleep, and when I set him down inside, noticed he was walking differently, almost like he was on his toes. I walked slowly with him back to my room, and set him up on my bed so he could lay down. That's when I looked at his paws. He has blisters on the pads of his paws that formed fro running on the flat rock surrounding the pool, and during his play, the blisters had broken as well. Is there anything I can do to help him with the pain? I'm worried about his paws getting infected. The blisters look the same as they would on a person, and there's no discharge. They're just sore, and painful for him to walk on. Register or Login to remove advertisements. |

Maybe you should call the vet just for some advice. Maybe there is something you can do to relieve the pain and keep them clean. Please let us know!

RE: Blisters on paws. :C
Well, called the vet, on your advice, and he pretty much told me just to make sure to keep the paws clean (wash his paws after he comes in from the yard), and just watch them to make sure nothing changes for the worse. He said that Ty is going to be sore for a few days, but he'll more than likely be feeling better by the weekend. He also told me to limit his playtime from now on, to just an hour or so of heavy playtime, and then to probably put him in a kennel to rest, so he doesn't tear up his paws again.
He's feeling pretty much the same as he was yesterday, which I was expecting. Still walking on tip toe, and moving very slowly, but he doesn't look as miserable as he did yesterday. |

Storm has torn up the pads on his feet pretty good a couple of times. I put just a little antibiotic ointment on them, it seems that they(pads) heal quite quickly.

Poor little tender foot.
I recommend Bactine, it is easy to squirt on the pads and is a very good antiseptic. They will heal over in no time.

Listen to Rayeann. She knows how to fix everything including your cable and dishwasher should you need advice on that. She's one amazing lady.

I know this is an old post, but you guys should try this stuff. You can also use it on yourself.
A lot of dog handlers use this for working dogs. K9 Units use it a lot too. http://www.tuffoot.com/ |

Wow, thanks for reminding me of Tuf Foot. I have used it in the past on a dog with tender pads. It is good stuff and works very good on people too.
