Hi, my 1 year old colliex is a gem when off lead with other dogs. However when she goes on the lead she starts barking at everything she sees including other dogs. I have tried getting her to sit and focusing her on me, trying to distract her with toys or treats. However she still carries on barking. Its not like an aggressive bark, its more of a playful bark. Of course i would love her to be off the lead 24/7 and i think it is less frustraiting for her(although this is not always possible)
Any ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated Leanne and Moo!

RE: Barking on leash
It might be because she feels less safe on a lead than if she were free to protect herself, or move properly. She could be trying to protect you since she could think it's her duty when you put her on the lead.
To try and cure the problem, use friends dogs and walk by each other, interacting if the dog barks and showing her that it is alright. If a cat jumps into your lap it's because your lap is warmer, if the dog does the same thing, it means he loves you. -Alfred North Whitehead |
