Any book lovers on the forums?
Just curious. I've been a big reader since I was around 13. I enjoy fiction mostly but I also like military non fiction. You know, sniper tales and books about war heroes. I read a ton of fantasy and sci-fi.

Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
I love to read. Always have. I am probably not as "deep" a reader as you are. I guess what I read would be classified as "chick lit". Not romance novels...more like Candace Bushnell and Lauren Weisenburger.

Not romance novels...more like Candace Bushnell and Lauren Weisenburger. My sister reads chick lit. She was also a fan of the Sex and the City TV series. But right now she is really into those vampire books, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. And some other female vampire book author. What is it about vampires that women like so much? Tassle Wrote:Big fantasy fan....I love the escapism (sp?) I've been planning on reading David Eddings for years. I've heard a lot of praise for his books. Right now my favorites are Raymond E. Feist, Scott Lynch, and Stephen King's Dark Tower series. My all time favorite is Terry Brooks' Shannara series which is something like 18 books long. I've read them all and I wish he'd hurry up and write another but he's working on his Landover series now which doesn't interest me as much. Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
I've just re-read my fav DE book - The redemtion of Althalus
But you would be kept busy....5 books in the Belgariad and 5 in the mallorean (all teh same series) added to that the to sequals (that are really prequals...its a bit hard to explain - but they have to be read after the first lots) Then the Elinium and Tamuli (3 books in each set - but again one runs on from the other) Then the dreamers which is 4 books - sadly his wife (Leigh) passed away a couple of years ago and I think she was a big part of his writing. I have never beena ble to get into Terry Brooks - although I have tried a few times (I have The Heritage of Shannara on teh self at the moment. Mum is a Huge Anne Macafery fan...but I never got into those either - I think DE spoiled me  Hannah The only mistakes my dogs make are the ones I've taught them!

Tassle Wrote:I've just re-read my fav DE book - The redemtion of Althalus I know Terry Brooks isn't the greatest, he's more my all time favorite because The Sword of Shannara was the first fantasy book I ever read and I loved it. The series is what got me hooked on not only fantasy, but reading in general. I met David and his wife a long time ago at a reading/signing in Seattle. She was very nice. It was sad to hear she died. Another great person in the fantasy genre died not too long ago as well, Keith Parkinson. He is my favorite fantasy style artist. He may have even done some Eddings covers. Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
Your sister has excellent taste. I am a fan of just about all of Candice Bushnell's books, especially her most recent.
I haven't read Twilight. I don't understand the Vampire thing myself. I am not a fan...too scary for me. Kelly In their short lives our pets give us all they can...their friendship, unselfish love, and total loyalty. Lucky dog always in my heart |

Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
I haven't read a novel for ages - work is always in the way!
But when I was younger, I loved fantasy with Tolkein's "Lord of the Rings" and William Horwood's "Duncton Wood" and sequels being my favourites. This led easily into me being a LOTR geek with Peter Jackson's brilliant adaptions of the books. This thread did make me wonder though, how would you cast your dog as a fantasy character? No question about Gryhon: He would make a great Sauron (LOTR ultimate baddie) ![]() Wisp as the Witch King (Sauron's sidekick) just does not work.

HAHA! That's so funny. I think Lance would be Gimli and Mick would probably be cast as a horse.

Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
I'm not a reader, I feel guilty about sitting down and not working. There is always something for me to do.
My husband is a huge reader and he has written 5 books to date. He hasn't been published yet but very close on this last one. Still waiting. Linda One Border Collie Is Never Enough |

Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
I am a voracious reader. If work didn't get in the way, I would be stuck to a book all day. (Of course, Kia would have something to say about that.) I love Stephen King, Anne McCaffrey, Kathy Reichs, Robert Jordan, Marion Zimmer Bradley and I could go on and on. Love sci fi, fantasy, mysteries. I just started a C.J. Cherryh book called Hammerfall. I hope I like it.

Re: Any book lovers on the forums?
I used to love reading until going back to uni, my favourites were always Stephen King, Peter Strawb, they collaborated on a marvellous book The Talisman, one of my all time favourites,Mario Puzo, and I used to read all of John Grishams books but went off him after a while, After November I'm looking forward just to reading again for the sake of it. As for a character Rocky could be it would need to be the Lion in the Wizard of Oz.
