A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
I'm not sure if it's the food or not but after buying a new bag, which is the Pacific Stream formula, both Lance and Mick started itching a lot, especially Lance. He's scratching and chewing all day.
Has anyone else noticed any changes with the food? I went to their website and saw that they just released two new formulas and I'm worried that they've found a cheaper source for ingredients or something, that allowed them to expand their line of dog food but lowered quality. I don't know and I hope it's not the food causing them to itch. I don't know what else it would be though. I haven't fed them Pacific Stream formula much in the past. I think we maybe went through one bag. So it could just be this particular formula. But they never itched from it in the past. Brandon Lance & Mick ![]() "Don't think of it as a problem. RE: A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
Hey, if you just started the new bag and they're having problems, I'd be looking at the food too. I'd make note of the lot number on the bag just in case. Bon's eating High Prairie right now and not having troubles. The only change that I am aware of in Pacific Stream is that they changed this year to only fish free of ethoxyquin, but I think that change happened earlier this spring?
I don't know what it might be! I'd switch foods just to be safe and see if all goes back to normal. If not, you could look at seasonal allergies or other environmental causes. Alanna and Bonnie

RE: A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
I've been recommending the Pacific Stream on accident lately (not saying it's not good just that I meant Wetlands). I had Wetlands and PS mixed up for awhile. They are both perfectly good but I hope it isn't the Pacific Stream formula making my dogs itch!. Seems a bit better today though so far. I should pay better attention to the text on the bags and less attention to the artwork.

RE: A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
I feed HP, the one with Bison in it and haven't had any issues, if any thing Maggie is looking better then ever. I just bought a new bag last week and haven't opened it yet ( I try to keep a new bag in the house once we reach the half way mark on the 'old' bag ) so when I do in the next few days, I will let you know. My supplier was excited to show me the new found, it's a lamb food and that is it's only meat product. I don't feed lamb, but I grabbed a couple sample bags and neither dog seemed excited over it.

RE: A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
The only formula change I have heard about, other than the ethoxyquin free fish(Thank you Diamond!)
was in the High Prairie formula. This happened about May. They were no longer able to obtain the volume of quality venison required for production, so they reduced the venison percentage and increased the bison percentage, instead of using lower quality venison. Storm really doesn't like the Pac. Stream, the other two he loves! Mist doesn't care, if it's food, she eats it. |

Well I am still feeding them the Pacific Stream and they've stopped itching a bit, but still itch. I don't know what it was, could have been a number of things.

RE: A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
Skip's last food was TOTW Salmon and I couldn't tell if it was the food, stress (we took a 1200 mile trip right at the new food change) of the shampoo I was using that got him itching...
He's gone through that bag now and he's on "4 Health" Chicken (also a grain free formula food.) It's been three baths later... (1 at the vet and 2 at home...) and he's scratching and shedding again... The one thing I did notice though... is he scratches the back of his hind legs in the morning before he gets to "go" and during the day he occationally itches himself where he got his injections for Heartworm (nearly 4 months ago...) I'm thinking it's dry skin... so, I reduce the amount of shampoo I use... (1 oz to a half gallon water) But, there he goes... ![]() Is there a skin treatment for dogs, like a hot oil treatment Skip's mommy uses sometimes? It is often said... "A dog is man's best friend..." I only hope I am worthy enough to reciprocate... Bob...

Mine love it too. Lance has always been a bit of a picky eater but there are two foods he eats with enthusiasm; Taste of the Wild, and Eagle Pack. With those he even licks the bottom of the bowl when he's done with the food. The avocado is supposed to help restore the natural skin oils to keep them from getting dry. And the oatmeal helps with itch too. Brandon Lance & Mick ![]() "Don't think of it as a problem. RE: A question for those who are feeding TOTW dog food
I have tried both Wetlands and Pacific Stream. My husband doesn't like fish, so of course he assumed Kia wouldn't like it either. She ate both but not with great enthusiasm. I don't think it is the food though. I think she is a great self regulator. She doesn't have an ounce of fat on her. We can't get the High Prairie formula in Canada ... something to do with the bison/venison in it.

Taking care of itchy skin is best from the inside, put a raw egg on the food for a couple days. If you are skeptical about raw eggs you can use plain yogurt.
